She tells Emily about the extraordinary fame that followed, including people naming their babies after her, and why she eventually decided to step away from television at the height of her success to concentrate on raising her family.
Her new memoir, Challenge, tells the story of those remarkable years and much more. Anneka is donating all her proceeds from the book to Alzheimer's Research UK, a cause particularly close to her heart after both her parents lived with dementia.
